PRINCE ALBERT II NORTH POLE EXPEDITION 2006
In April 2006 Fjellborg Arctic Journeys took part in the North Pole Expedition lead by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco. Fjellborg Arctic Journeys trained and supplied the 42 dogs for the expedition and two representatives from the company, owner Kenth Fjellborg and Senior Guide Tom-Frode Johansen, were among the eight members to take part in the expedition. On April 13th the group departed from the Russian research station Camp Barneo in the Arctic Ocean. After four days of travelling in tough conditions, covering nearly 150 km, the expedition reached the North Pole at 15:45 Monaco Time on April 16th. We are proud to have been part of this unique event.
FJÄLLRÄVEN POLAR 1997–2019
Together with the Swedish outdoor equipment company Fjällräven, we organise an annual dog sledding race for amateurs, known as the Fjällräven Polar. Fjällräven Polar starts in Signaldalen, Norway, and ends in Jukkasjärvi, in the heart of Swedish Lapland. During the race the participants drive their own team of sled dogs during a 300 km trek through the Arctic wilderness.
The idea behind Fjällräven Polar was born in the early 1990s, when Kenth Fjellborg met Fjällräven’s founder Åke Nordin. Kenth had participated in the Iditarod in Alaska, the world’s most challenging dog sledding competition, and during the meeting with Åke the idea was born to create a similar event in Sweden – a dog sledding competition in Arctic Lapland but for ordinary people rather than professional mushers.
The first Fjällräven Polar was arranged in 1997 and was held every year between 1997 and 2006. In 2012 the event was relaunched and today the competition is generating more interest than ever. Watch the video below to see some of the highlights from Fjällräven Polar.
