GRAND ARCTIC

The Grand Arctic combines a hands-on dogsledding adventure with a relaxing stay at our beautiful Väkkärä Lodge. You will learn to drive your own dog team, explore the Lapland wilderness and visit the spectacular ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi in Swedish Lapland. A grand winter adventure tailored for large corporate or private groups.

Excursion Itinerary

Day 1
Upon your arrival at Kiruna airport, your private wilderness guide will greet your group and provide you with warm Arctic clothing. Outside the airport our eager husky teams are waiting to take you on an exhilarating ride through the scenic Lapland landscape. On this first day of the program you ride comfortably as a passenger in the sled.

Around noon we make a stop along the trail to enjoy a delicious lunch served inside a large tepee-style lavvu. Next, we continue the journey to our private Väkkärä Wilderness Lodge, where a hot sauna and dinner await. Accommodations are in cosy and private log cabins.

Day 2
The next morning after breakfast it is time to learn how to drive your own dog teams. After a thorough introduction to the dogs and the gear you will be mushing your own team into the pristine Lapland wilderness. At lunchtime an outdoor meal is served around a warming fire in a beautiful spot along the trail.

In the afternoon we arrive at the lodge where a hot sauna has been prepared for us. For those who dare it is possible to go ice swimming in Lake Väkkärä afterwards. In the evening your private chef invites you to a three-course dinner, featuring fresh ingredients from the local cuisine. After a day full of adventure you will enjoy a good night’s sleep in your private cabin.

Day 3
After breakfast on the final day we travel by dogsleds to the Fjellborg Homestead and kennel in Poikkijärvi. From here you will travel a short distance by snowmobile sled to ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi where you will enjoy a privately guided tour of this spectacular hotel, built entirely of snow and ice. If you are departing from Lapland on the same day, a transfer to Kiruna airport will be provided in time for your flight.

Excursion Itinerary

Day 1
The adventure starts at Kiruna airport where you are greeted by our guides who will transport you from the airport to the Fjellborg Homestead in Poikkijärvi. Here, on the shores of the magnificent Torne River, the Fjellborg family has lived for nine generations and for the last twenty years the village has also been the home of a big family of Alaskan huskies.

After enjoying a welcome lunch and changing into warm Arctic clothing, you will receive a guided tour of the Homestead and kennel and learn how to drive your own dog team. In the afternoon we hook up the dogs and set out on the first leg of the journey which takes us to the comfortable Väkkärä Wilderness Lodge, beautifully situated by Lake Väkkärä. At the lodge there will be time to relax in the hot sauna before your chef invites you to sit down for a delicious Lappish dinner. Your accommodation for the night is in cosy private log cabins.

Day 2
After breakfast the next morning we repack our sleds and travel in the direction of the Sevuvuoma Homestead. Around noon we stop at a scenic place to enjoy a rustic lunch served by a warming fire. The dogs will enjoy some snacks in the snow until it’s time to hit the trail again.

Our beautiful Sevuvuoma Homestead, at the foot of the Vittangivaara fell, has the atmosphere of a traditional Lapland home and all the comforts of a modern wilderness retreat. Here we will enjoy the best sauna in Lapland followed by a gourmet dinner based on the fresh ingredients of the local cuisine. After an exciting day in the wild you will sleep comfortably in private cabins.

Day 3
On the third and final day you will travel by dog sleds along a scenic trail back to the Homestead and kennel in Poikkijärvi, where you will say farewell to the dogs in the comfort of their home.
