Swedish outdoor equipment company FJÄLLRÄVEN has been our partner for nearly 25 years. We share a mutual goal of making nature and the wilderness more accessible to people.
Fjällräven was founded by Åke Nordin in 1960 with the goal of developing outdoor products that would make its easier for people to access and enjoy nature. Today, Fjällräven’s products are sold in around 20 countries and many of its pieces have become instant classics, for example the Greenland Jacket, Vidda Trousers, the Kånken Backpack and the Expedition Down Jacket.
In 1996, Fjällräven teamed up with Fjellborg Arctic Journeys to organise an annual 300 km long dog sledding event for amateurs in Arctic Lapland, known as Fjällräven Polar. The first Fjällräven Polar was arranged in 1997 and every year thereafter until 2006. In 2012 the event was relaunched and today this great outdoor adventure is generating more interest than ever.
Through Fjällräven Polar and the partnership with Fjellborg Arctic Journeys, Fjällräven is able to test its products in one of the harshest real life testing environments available. And thanks to Fjällräven’s clothes and products it has become easier for us to do a good job as guides, mushers and hosts in the Arctic wilderness. Fjällräven understands the climate we work in, and their products are both durable and functional.
Through our partnership with Fjällräven we can ensure that our guests have access to the best possible gear for winter activities and our dog sled journeys are evidence that anyone can experience the Arctic in a safe and enjoyable way. Within walking distance from the Fjellborg Homestead in Poikkijärvi, lies the world famous ICEHOTEL in Jukkasjärvi. This is the world’s first and largest hotel built of ice and snow and a unique and fascinating celebration of the natural elements of the Arctic.
ICEHOTEL was founded in 1989, and is reborn in a new guise every winter. Each year the crystal clear ice is harvested from the Torne River, the largest of Sweden’s four national rivers, and in spring the clean ice melts back into the water and is returned to the eco-cycle.
During the last 20 years, Fjellborg Arctic Journeys has been a partner of ICEHOTEL, arranging sled dog journeys as part of the hotel’s activity program. A popular choice among our own guests is to combine one of our sled dog journeys with a night in a unique designer Ice Suite at ICEHOTEL. The contrast between a down to earth wilderness adventure and a stay at the cosmopolitan ICEHOTEL makes this combination a real winner.
If you wish to start or end your dog sledding adventure with a stay at ICEHOTEL, please let us know and we are happy to arrange this for you. To learn more about the world’s first hotel of ice and snow, visit www.icehotel.com
